A Journey Begins
The hum of the engines surround with blank noise. I’ve slept on and off, thinking about this journey that is only just beginning. There is something wonderful about the beginning of an adventure, the possibilities seem so limitless. Many of my most cherished memories happened through extended travel in foreign countries.
One of the most powerful components of travel is that you are no longer in control. Most times in life, we feel the comfort of routine and familiar surroundings and interactions. When traveling, everything is new, and very little happens as expected. You are often forced to be open to just about anything when in a foreign country. And its during these times in life that I feel like I have grown immensely as a person. Travel has broadened my horizons in every sense of the term.
I have ideas about what will happen over the course of the coming months. My goal is to travel down the length of the Andes, from Ecuador to Patagonia. But there is a realistic chance that even that may not happen, at least not as I envision it. And honestly, that’s okay with me. Aside from my geographical goals of traversing the Andes, I have some major artistic goals as well. I want to be looking for creative story telling opportunities every day, whether it is through photography, film, or writing. I feel like this can be a really powerful opportunity for me as a practitioner of the art of storytelling. And I certainly hope to be creating content that others (you) find compelling.

I have dreamed of this epic South America adventure ever since I first saw the Cordillera Blancas in Peru in 2007. The mountains captivated me in a way that no other landscape has. I am practically giddy with excitement to return to this beautiful land, surrounded by a lovely culture, immersed in a magnificent language. But more than excitement, I feel a strong sense of hope: hope that this life holds a grand adventure, hope that this will be a life-changing experience (in a good way), and hope that I can interact with others, locally and back home, in a meaningful way.
Cheers to adventure, wherever you may be.
In my morning walk around, my first time just wandering around, I came across this futbol match between two indigenous teams. I also learned that there is a whole tournament going on in this city dedicated to teams consisting of indigenous peoples from all over Ecuador.
